In Honour

Brother when you weep for me
Remember that it was meant to be
Lay me down and when you leave
Remember I'll be at your sleeve
In every dark and choking hall
I'll be there as you slowly crawl
On every roof in driving snow
I'll hold your coat and you will know
In cellars hot with searing heat
At windows where a gate you meet
In closets where young children hide
You know I'll be there at your side
The house from which I now respond
Is overstaffed with heroes gone
Men who answered one last bell
Did the job and did it well
As firemen we understand
That death's card dealt in our hand
A card we hope we never play
But one we hold there anyway
That card is something we ignore
As we crawl across a weakened floor
For we know that we're the only prayer
For anyone that might be there
So remember as you wipe your tears
The joy I knew throughout the years
As I did the job I loved to do
I pray that thought will see you through

Chief's Retirement Upcoming

Posted on: 05 April, 2007 by admin

The fire chief of our department Doug MacAulay will be retiring May 1 2007.
His successor, Deputy chief Gerry Adam will begin his new duties as the Fire Chief the same day.

After 13 years with the Oak bay Fire Department, Doug MacAulay has announced his retirement of May 1 2007. Chief MacAulay has been a valuable asset to the fire department. Chief MacAulay began serving the Oak Bay Fire Department in 2004 as the Inspector, He was promoted to Lieutenant Inspector and progressed to the rank of Assistant, then Deputy Chief. He then became the Fire Chief and has been in that position for the past 5 years.

Chief MacAulay's successor, Deputy Chief Gerry Adam has been a distinguished member of the union and also was an integral member of our executive who then became the Deputy Chief. Gerry will be a great successor, and we look forward to this next part of his fire service career as the Chief of our Department.

Friends or other department members may contact our benevolent or fire station for information on the retirement dinner being held on May 16th 2007.
