A vehicle fire in the 1200 block of Beach Drive was reported by dispatch. Upon arrival a fully involved ford F450 garbage hauler was discovered.
There were no occupants in the vehicle at the time of the fire. Upon arival Engine 1 found the driver trying to extinguish the fire with his portable extinguisher. He was quickly escorted away from the heavily engulfed truck. Engine 1's crew members quickly extinguished the fire, which was found mostly in the engine compartment area.
The vehicle cab is a complete write off however the expensive box and hydraulics were saved, partly due to the diligence of the driver who had tried to extinguish the flames using a portable fire extinguisher and the rapid knowckdown of the fully involved fire by the supression crews.
Did you know? Portable fire extinguishers should be used only if safe to do so in the very early stages of a fire. Do not try to extinguish a large fire with a small extinguisher, the time you spend isn't going to return a positive outcome, and you may lose your opportunity to escape.
Do you have any images of this fire, if so you can submit them to us using this form in our gallery and get full credit for the images if we use them!
