A structure fire was reported in the 2000 block of Goldsmith avenue at 5:55 AM on June 4th 2008 behind the recreation center.
Upon arrival crews found a fully involved outbuilding adjacent to the tennis bubbles. A rapid knockdown of the fire by Engine 1's initial attack prevented severe melting of the tennis bubble, which is made of a heavy vinyl material. The entrance area of the bubble was damaged due to the high radiant heat, but suppression crews minimized that damage by protecting it with that hose line. Victoria Engine 1 was requested to attend the scene to assist, but were returned shortly after they arrived due to the rapid knockdown of the fire involved building.
The fire is being investigated as suspicious. An estimate of the damage to the structure is 20,000 and there is no estimate of the cost of damages to the tennis bubble structure.
